1) What's the best battery, money no object?

2) What's the best battery, dollar-for-dollar?

They have all gone down hill big time. I used to be an Interstate and ACdelco battery dealer and they were great batteries back then. With all of the auto parts stores now doing battery installations to undercut everyone else I have seen a severe reduction in quality and longevity. My best longest lasting battery right now is my Optima.

I agree wholeheartedly with Vile.  And, the Optima Red Top is likely the best answer to both of your questions.

im with them, OPTIMA red top. ive told the story before about when i worked at autozone years ago before the DOC. when i worked there a guy brought in a red top as a core said it was "bad". put it on the trickle charger at work and then put it in my 94 c1500. that was back before Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and she still in my 94 to this day. so lets say 14 years on one battery

I will agree with Optima - but with a warning. Optima's like to be a daily driver, I have 7 vehicles, they don't seem to do well with a trickle charger, they don't like to be fully discharged (as in left all winter installed) But used on a vehicle that runs at least 4-5 times a week, great battery.
I've killed more of them than I'd care to admit... and yes I've tried to nurse them back and have had poor results.

My experience with Optima batteries and in knowing how an AGM battery works is that they don't last if deep discharged.  I lost a couple in my Chevelle, until I put a Battery Tender on it for when it sits for extended periods.  Haven't had a problem since.
