Been a long time but im renting a shop and dealing with freshman year at college so heres the update
I am renting a shop and practically living there
those are 20" steel wheels, im not going for a ghetto type of bag and body drop, its going to be more a hi perf. street truck that happens to lay ground and settle nicely in the grass
i welded on supports that held the frame from moving after cutting so that i can make a good template for my new frame and have the front portion not move from being 100% level
cut the frame 62" from the front leaving this left, it will eventually get scrapped but for now its my template for all the body mounts and levels
this is whats left, i got the 9" down there for the c-notch and 4 link set up
i ordered my tubing yesterday for cost, 3x3x3/16, 48', thought that would be enough
each angle is double cut from each piece, ensuring line up, and making it not only stronger, but they match perfectly with no overhang
clean air bag system
third member for the 9"
and then
"]
frame mocked everything cut including the 12 inch c-notch
flux core wire with 75%ar 25%ox, reverse polarized the welder, it lays ugly, but it is stronger than solid wire close to x2, by the way flux is $8.90 a pound, 90 bucks for a roll
Aluminum square tubing can be used for a streight blade, it is the strieghtest metal you can buy (tip from John Rankle)
all the pieces are beveled at the end to get a penitrative bead, as even a good welder on 1/4 setting only penetrates near a 1/16 to 1/8th inch
3 hours of welding smashing it from warping, and aligning it, and i got one side
thats where i am at as of tonight

thanks guys, both the step sides in your avtars are sick
the motor is a fresh 355 i redid it about 3000 miles ago, its getting a agressive custom grind cam roller lifters etc, im doing up some equal length headers (alot of thought came from one of the guys on here) to put the pipes right were i need them to be, along with machining the vortec heads to 2.02, and longer valves.
luckly my boss is a hot rodder and i work at a fabrication shop and today he pulled me aside and asked how my truck is coming and told me the laser and all the metal that isnt in a rack is available to me as long as i tell him what i took and for what use so i can keep him updated on my project (score!) so i am going to be making a ss fuel cell and some trick gussets and whatnot.
should have alot of the frame done tomorrow im working a double today to cover my 3rd member i just bought.

its the best job i have ever had, granted he runs our as*es and doesnt take any excuses and every day you leave looking like you came out of a coal mine, and not too high of pay, but ill come in on a saturday and help clean the shop no pay or stay late one night to finish a job. he is very appreciative. He sees i am just picking up the trade to use it to my advantage, and is leanient about school because he wants me in college, but the knowledge to be had from working with a 65 year old who started everything when he was 20 is unlimited, you learn how to work with metal the right way and get so many new skills, i dont really mind working for nothing just as long as i keep learning new stuff.
at that im redoing the frame completely because making the frame which is more or less 6" in hight, with 3x3" box, you can do a 3 inch body drop without channeling the body, and since i converted my truck to a 4speed muncie and will keep it that way, channeling gets in the way of my clutch pedal. 3 inches clears your front a-arms and crossmember, so that is why i did it. let alone its pretty BA to make your own frame, and its much cleaner than having unwanted brackets and holes in the frame
