Steering box
« on: December 09, 2016, 12:46:07 PM »
Working on 85 c10. Steering box is pouring fluid.  I have 2 option take apart and rebuild or just replace.

My question for you guys is:
Has anyone out there rebuilt one?
Difficulty level dealing with ball bearings?
Is it worth the effort or should I spring the extra money and replace?

Thanks!
Jeff

For $150 bucks you get a reman with a warranty. My time is more valuable to me personally to waste time with a worn out gear box

Hey there honestly never rebuilt one but it might be fun to try. But I would suggest just do a google search I just did and there like 65.00 that's shipping included on carparts.com.thats assuming what type of pump you have. Power steering pumps are hard to kill in my experience u might check your local pick a part last time I bought one it was like 10$$ and I was able to pick a few odds and ends up for my C-10.

I don't think he's asking about the pump.

No the pump is no problem. A few rings and a seal. It's the gear box I was talking about
