Starter wiring from bulk head
« on: July 10, 2015, 03:34:50 PM »
So my truck was on its 3rd motor when I got it ( it's an 81 c10 that came with a 350 conversion diesel which obviously blew up so pawpaw put in a 6.2) now with that being said he definitely rigged a lot of the wiring and one of the things that ended up rigged was the ignition. Basically the actually key ignition works for everything but the starter ( it had a momentary switch to start it). My question is does anybody know where exactly on the bulk head the original wire was to go to the starter?

do you have cut wires at the firewall? one thing to do is have a friend turn it to start and use a volt meter to see what wires only have 12v when the key is turned to start

The 1981 wiring diagrams are in the back of the 1981 factory service manual that I scanned and Chris hosted on this site.

The "start" wire is usually purple.  The FSM will show the exact position in the firewall bulkhead plug.
