Cold ir intake on my 81

Well is was really nice this weekend in Wisconsin so I pulled the truck out. I decided to swap out the old school accordion style CAI snorkel on my 350 air cleaner setup.  It supposed to be nice here all week so I'm also gonna get started on cleaning up some wiring and add some braided hoses to.

Not sure about the air cleaner.  It an Olds 350 from a tornado swapped in by my uncle years ago.

cool idea.... does it make a difference?..... do you put cone filters on the end of the tubes or just have them open and use the stocker?

Not sure about the air cleaner.  It an Olds 350 from a tornado swapped in by my uncle years ago. 

i have a similar air cleaner, i was told (by previous owner) it came out of an old corvette. altough instead of 2 round inlets, i have 2 roughly 4 inch long, 2 inch tall oval inlets.

 i'm gonna look into something like that for my 82,  although mine will be snorkels....

Both HAULIN IT and I have made our own dual snorkel air cleaners out of two factory units.

They are open with mess screen up by the inlets by the grill and a K&N filter in the stock housing.

I have an 86 350 with the tall air intake, i have been wanting to install this dual intake system for a while.
Is it possible to just weld another intake on the housing?
The way my engine is setup it would have to be at a different angle on the other side since there are 2 aluminum lines sticking up in the way.
Any suggestions or thoughts?

Yes you can absolutely.  That's what HAULIN IT did.  I just drilled a small hole in each corner of the new snorkel, and attached it with button head bolts, along with a bead of JBweld all the way around.  I had to bend the aluminum AC compressor lines foward a little bit (it's easier than you think, but be carefull not to bend them too much or to allow them to bend at all where they are brazed to the block that bolts to the compressor).  But if you can squeeze the inlet hose between the master cylinder and AC lines by simply "clocking" the snorkel around a bit, just do that.

When you go to the salvage yard, don't just grab another air cleaner.  Be sure to grab the inlet hose and plastic baffle that mounts in the radiator support, as well.  It's a fun project, and not hard at all.

perfect, i've already grabbed the hose and plastic piece, but i will need to take another air cleaner to cut off the metal intake so i can mount it. Would it be hard to break this off at the junk yard? it looked kinda like it was welded but i can hope.

On mine, there were spot welds at all four corners that had to be drilled out (I think it's the same in your situation).  You have two options here for removing the snorkel.  You can drill out the spot welds.  Or you can cut a rectangular area immediately around the snorkel to remove it, giving you more meat to attach it to the air cleaner.  I went with the first option as I thought it looks a little better, but you have to be careful not to remove too much material while drilling/grinding, so you have plently of meat at the corners to attach it with.  You also have to be careful not to cut the inlet hole in the air cleaner too large.  Applying a bead of JB Weld and attaching the snorkel with small bolts or sheet metal screws through the holes you made removing it, works great.  The snorkel I attached feels more sturdy than the one that was already there.  Good luck.  I can post more pic on my project thread here, if you want a better idea of how to do it.  We've kinda hijacked Uno's thread.
