ive got two that i had on my truck and ive got two i had for my car before i decided to part it. they sound best in a true dual design with a motor that has a lil grunt behind it imo.

Glasspacks make anything sound like a dumptruck with no exhaust, its horrible, and with the stupid popping when you let off, plus they flow like crap. Louder doesn't = more power .

I've got a set of thrust turbos on my true duals, i love the tone, but its a bit louder then id like for driving around

although it could have something to do with the drivers side pipe having 40 rust holes along the seam.
man i hate Canadian winters, im getting a new set of manifold-mufflers already, and I've only had the truck for 2 years... oh well lol

None of my glass packs have had a real harsh sound, all more mellow than flows..if yours have sounded like a straight piped dump truck, you need to find a better source for glass packs. Nor have ANY of the glass packs I've run popped when you let off..my flowmasters did on my '84 gmc, but not too bad. IMO, you've purchased some crummy and/or too short glass packs if they've been popping or that loud. 28" packs are pretty mellow.

What about those Smithy's mufflers? I guess it's some sort of glasspack super old school style? I think they only come with a 2" inlet/outlet though. They sound neat IMO. Especially with a flathead engine. 8)

Jim, what do you consider crappy and junk? Something thats cheap is not always junk. Sometimes the big name brand pricey stuff is actually worthless. I've learned the hard way a couple of times.  8)

I usually research alot of stuff before I buy, I'm not made of money, so I look hard to see what works and what doesn't. Glasspacks ..don't. Over the years I've done pretty good being able to look at something and know whether or not its good. yes there is some good cheap things , one example is  summit turbo mufflers,  for the price you can't go wrong, Snap on, Mac ETC. tools , that are more and more being made in china and the quality is no better than the chinese made craftsman tool that are priced much less.  Its all in experience.

Glasspacks are always my favorite. Nearly every vehicle I've owned had 'em. Matter of fact, I need to order a new set for my stepside along with my new 350, since I'm pulling the choked 250-6. Yeah! Bye bye California smog junk!!!! Ha Ha! I'm throwing the cat out on the woods!

Jim, I'm with ya.   I hate Glasspacks!  I worked in a shop doing repairs and custom bent exhaust for 10 yrs before switching to Industrial work.  I just can't imagine anyone wanting a glass pack.

But then I step back and look around...

Most everyone on here raving about Glass Packs is 25 or younger.  327Power was a kid when I quit turning wrenches for a living.  They may have never heard the dump truck sound.  I'm betting some Mfg has picked up the Glass Pack name and changed or improved the design.

Give me a Flow Master 40 series any day.

I couldn't imagine replacing the exhaust on my Yukon, It is a decent system ~ Why bother?  If they only knew the crappy stock exhaust we had from the factory back 20+ yrs ago.  My Yukon is a family hauler / tow vehicle and performs very well in stock form.

Dumping exhaust under the bed is Ok for a pro street truck or a work truck ~ But for something I'm gonna drive every day or use as a tow rig I can do with out the noise of the exh note under the bed ringing like a bell.

the glasspack sound is something I've always disliked! Lol I like the sound of a 40 series but its too played out and they can be a little obnoxious loud also. I LOVE my magnaflow on my yukon but I don't like the magnaflow price. I've never seem to find a good sound clip on a cammed smallblock. I don't want anything very loud but don't want it whisper quiet either. I plan to finish my forged 383 that I started for one of my cars to put in this pickup so I want something that will flow enough for that motor and I know whatever setup I go with on my mild 350 the 383 with produce a lot more noise.

Glasspacks sound like a wet fart.
