Hop Up that 262 V6?
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:08:48 PM »
Anybody evah do a hot 4.3 before? Sound kinda neat. It would be super light too. Just an idea.
The 262 V6 sounds really good too. I had one in an 85 Caprice coupe once. You couldn't peel out, but once you got moving it almost hauled ass.

Had one in a 92 s dime. Throttle body spacer, open element k&n, headers, msd all around, electric fan, gear drive, that's about it. One mean truck to a 16 yr old kid. My buddy wrecked it trying to drift... Only one kind of truck I drive now... FULL SIZE!!

GM did.  They put them in Syclones and Typhoons.

And they are not "superlight" compared to an iron SBC.  But basically you can build them the same way as a 350, pretty much.  Build one like you would a 400hp 350 and you should have a 300hp V6.  But this, to me, seems even more pointless than hot rodding a 305, unless the application can only physically fit a V6.

It might seem pointless, but a 262 V6 would be a cool build since it's different. Everybody has some form of 350 V8.
Screaming down the road with say, a 280 horse 262 might be a lot of fun!
I remember a magazine did a build called "The 3/4 350". Got some respectable numbers out of that thing.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I was talking about earlier.  With the same investment (financial and labor) and the same sized cam, a 350 would have made 400-425hp.  If you want to be different, drop in a big block from another GM brand.  Don't go smaller and weaker.  I mean a Honda 1.6L would be different, but you don't see anyone swap that into their hot rod.

I see what you mean, though.  Just for grins, it could be fun to try and make a high hp V6, but not if you REALLY care about going fast.

I personally have never liked the 350... but I guess the 400's very close

The only reason 350s are more popular than 400s is because GM made gozillions of them, while the 400 only had a limited run.  If the 400 had been introduced in the 1st gen Camaro like the 350, things would probably be different.

I wouldn't be caught dead with a Honda anything. Another reason to hop up the little 262 is if maybe you had one laying around taking up space and you just wanted to see what you could do with it. I still think it would be a cool build. Of course if given the option of either a 350 or the V6, I'd take the 350. It's just that even though the 350 small block Chevrolet is one of the best motors ever made IMO, you have to admit that sometimes it just gets boring.

Dunno. I guess when I had my s-10 everyone said 350!! I'm like no thanks. Then with my c-10 I just kinda wanted to be different I suppose. My dad's 97 sierra is a pooch to me, and my 88 throws every dtc in the book. Dunno really, just like being different ;D

I'm still kicking myself for not buying a Honda, at least out of respect for Mr. Honda.

Different is good if it serves an innovative purpose.

Forgot to mention that my g/f 89 camaro with a mildly built carbed 350 got annihilated by my buddies 91 crx with a built b18a1. But a lot of people around here have their c/ks with 350's or bb's.

Drop that 350 into your Citation and surprise the heck out of that CRX. :o
