Have you guys herd of the show "The Fall Guy"? The main characters truck is an 82 GMC I believe. It's basically the Dukes of Hazzard except it's a good 'ol k10 doing insane jumps.

I think there's some clips on YouTube.

2)  It illustrates the condition/situation of the domestic automotive industry at the time, and it's eventual fate.  i feel it actually started going downhill about 84.

They are just going to school and then later a homecoming parade.

What was the movie with Kurt Russel were the guys sabotaged his Jeep Cherokee I think? Then when they broke down out in the middle of nowhere they kidnapped his wife to get him to empty his bank account. He ended up hitching a ride on the guys semi truck back to the farm, saved his wife, but they had to make a run for it in a yellow 83 - 86 C20 with a service / tool body on it.

As far as these trucks being the star of the show, Fall Guy for sure is #1 in my mind. I remember even as a kid I was watching it when it was new and they showed a scene where it rolled down a hillside. Too bad it was a 73-74 Chevy. Even I could spot the different grille at that young  ;)  I think the 82 they used though was a GMC. I seem to recall an 83-84 GMC grille too, but they used a few different trucks as I recall.

In the original Jaws, the cop drove a then-new mid-70s K5 Blazer with a light bar on top of it.

Lethal Weapon 1, Riggs drove a late-80s Crew Cab dually, which was still the 73-87 design. I remember the big thing about LW 2 where they pull the house down with stilts was the new-design crew cab dually was either just released or hadn't been released yet to the public.

GMC was the "officail" truck in Fall Guy, the early ones were 79's with round headlights (Chevy's and GMC's were using in stunts, etc).  The got a new one every year up to 1986.

Anyone mentioned the 2 in Dante's peak?

He had a blazer or suburban, and then at the end they had a chevy with a work bed on it.

Also what about the clint eastwood movie, every which way but loose, or any which way you can, I forget which, but the cops had a step side with a roll bar and a tonneua cover.

I think I'm thinking of the right movie lol.

Yep, the Clint Eastwood (one of my favorite actors) movie was Every Which Way But Loose (Any Which Way You Can was of course the sequel) and that stepside that the off-duty cops were using to track him down ended up getting swamped in a lake. Waste of a nice truck what would have been new at the time since that movie was made in 1978.  Here's a link after it got pulled of the water:

We can see that the 73-91's were/are a very photogenic vehicle.  Perhaps the most photogenic of any pickup produced ever.

Also, as also discussed in the other post, i feel that the 87 pickup in the film "Roger and me." by Michael Moore is very significant for several reasons, and possibly the most significant 73-91 to appear on film for several reasons :  (and i'm desperately trying to locate a clip of the sequence;  If i remember correctly, it was red possibly two-tone with white, AND they had a banner that proclaimed the last truck produced in the plant or something.  Also, it showed an irate worker--because he had just lost his job.)

1)  Upon further analysis, it appears that the factory in question was not in Flint, but in the detroit suburb of  Pontiac.  So it would seem that Moore put this sequence in to illustrate the impact of a nearby city as well as the automotive business in general and it's effect on the economy of flint;  The economies of the greater Detroit area and surrounding areas are pretty much intertwined;  Flint/Davidson is not too far from Detroit.  Regardless, the truck in question could be the last 87 pickup produced?

2)  It illustrates the condition/situation of the domestic automotive industry at the time, and it's eventual fate.  i feel it actually started going downhill about 84.

The factory is definitely located in Flint.  It was on the corner of Saginaw and Atherton roads.  The factory was torn down and was turned into the Great Lakes Tech center and home to GM SPO operations.   I used to work there a couple years ago.  Since then, it has also been shuttered.  The original factory was also home to The Sitdown Strike.  The building next store was Billy Durant's office and is still standing to this day.

So that truck could very well be the last 73-87 pickup truck to be produced?

It's actually a pretty cool looking truck too.   :)  If I remember correctly it was a red LWB 2WD Silverado.    The movie is a great chronicle of both Flint and the auto industry.  Although I'm honestly not a huge a fan of Michael Moore...

Crazy Heart suburban...

http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=17249.0 (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=17249.0)

i like watching for mistakes in filming....

goofs:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1263670/goofs (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1263670/goofs)

Continuity: Bad is driving down the road in the '78 Suburban that has old faded paint. When it is rolled down the hill, it has suddenly been freshly painted exactly like it appears in its next scene, which occurred after repairs had supposedly been made. The sequence of filming was apparently to wait until the all other scenes had been made using the Suburban and then rolling it down the hill.

Continuity: When the suburban crashes it rolls over a fence. In the next shot the fence disappears.

Revealing mistakes: When Bad opens the Suburban's driver's door while talking to Jean, the door mirror is "fogged over" to prevent the crew and equipment from being visible in the mirror.

Revealing mistakes: After Bad crashes and rolls the Suburban, there is a shot through the driver's side window of him lying on the passenger side floor. The shift lever on the Suburban is in "PARK".

Factual errors: The Suburban is stated to be a 1978 model, but the body side moldings have a yellow/gold painted insert which was only available for one model year, "1977".

Continuity: In several shots, the Suburban's driver's side door mirror is turned inward toward the door when Bad get in, but is in the normal position when the Suburban is going down the road.

I put it on page 4 as the 2nd greatest movie ever ;D
Second only to Rocky IV, where Rocky single handedly defeated communism and brought an end to the cold war.
About Tremors, I think the squarebody was on the TV series, and in the movie they used an old Kaiser Gladiator pickup. If we're including TV, then everybody knows the Fall Guy truck is awesome, and there are a bunch of our trucks on the Dukes, and like bake74 said, the A-team. They don't make TV like they used to...

I know what he was referring to but arcountryboy (who txchainsawgogi was responding to) was talking about the Jimmy.  It was in the first Tremors movie as well.  By far the coolest truck, owned by the gun-loving couple (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire).

Just saw a few movies recently:

X-Men Origins Wolverine - There is a prominent 75 squarebody:

Saw a few in Super 8, but that whole movie is littered with classic cars and trucks, it is hard to nail each appearance down.

My wife loves Varsity Blues and she always says my truck looks like the one in the movie:

Though thats a stretch as mine is an 85 and not lifted, but hey.

i don't know it it has been mentioned but there is one that has a prominent role in "Boys don't cry."   i don't know if it is a shortbed 4x4 or a blazer with top down (is there really a difference?----oh wow....could be an underlying theme of the movie?)

The movie has a very sad ending, you may not want to watch it.  On the other hand i think we are mature enough to handle it.

i really think the 73-91 series pickup IS the most filmed pickup ever and has appeared in more movies than any other pickup and possibly vehicle period.
