0.6% of trucks came with that transmission.  If you find someone there is a lot of info you are going to ask for.  The gear ratio is the biggest and how they use the truck.  I have 3 of these transmissions and 1 is for a build I am doing next.  All mine are 2 wheel drive and were out of 2.73 gearing.  1.99 is the final drive and unless you have a torque built engine or have the ability to cruise at 85 the OD is going to be kinda a dog and probably lug it at the slightest incline at normal cruising speeds...

Well as you probably know, 1/2 tons was the only weight class these were offered.  4x4's were cast iron cases.  305's were the largest engine you could get with one and back then they were the gas saver edition but I have only seen literature claiming that and 20 mpg city 27 mpg highway in the 2 wheel drive.  My shop truck build is going to have that transmission paired with an RV type cam in a 350.  Hoping to report a MPG thread someday with that truck.

if i was to get it i would pull the 305 and put in one of my tbi 350s. they had 300 ft lbs new, so i might be ok and they might lower the tq rating of the trans

I think their perceived weakness is in OD being in the 3rd gear place and extra stuff is spinning internally as opposed to straight 1:1.  After all the A-833 is the Hemi 4 speed and took some real abuse in the non-OD version

Irish,
you got the 6.2 all wrong. Lots of good reasons to own one.
- no more speeding tickets
- no one will ask to borrow your truck.
- the smoke at start up will put an end to mosquitos in your neighborhood.

you are correct, I forgot about the 6.2

Zieg,
Your not alone, lots of people want to forget the 6.2.
