12 bolt rearend question
« on: November 10, 2006, 10:07:00 PM »
Question,
did all c10 trucks come with a 12 bolt rearend? The 2.77 rearend i got that was a original rearend to my truck is a 12 bolt.I was just curious on this because i got 3 rearends and 3 different ratios 2.77 a 3.42 and a 3.73.All are 5 lug  and all are truck rearends.Did people get a chance to choose a ratio from the dealership or was that part of the engine package when the truck was built from the factory?

thanks
pat

You could order ratios, but also a dealer that knew their stuff would have ordered specific ratios for specific truck uses to set on their lot.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

If you were ordering the truck you could option just about anything you wanted including axle ratios.

73-81 came with 12bolts, 82-87(91) came with 10 bolts.  There is nothing significantly better in 12 vs 10 for a street truck.
