Rough Counrty lift?
« on: January 02, 2003, 05:28:00 PM »
I was lookin at a 6" rough counrty lift, it includes front springs, steering arm, rear blocks and add-a-leafs, all the u-bolts, and shocks, for $425. Is that a good lift for the money? And my truck has front quad shocks, can i just put 2 in the front, or do i need to put 4?

There is no reason you have to run the four shocks, as long as your bracketry is designed to stay in place without double shocks on each side.  Just use quality shocks.

I have never owned Rough Country, but I imagine "You get what you pay for"  applies here.  The ride won't improve any, and in fact, add a leaf will firm it up back there.  I prefer to have a rear lift spring set, or you may consider flipping the rear swing shackle bracket.

Yea, i might go for the 4" with just springs instead of blocks, i heard blocks aren't the greatest. Plus im plannin on running 33/12.5/15's Those would look small with a 6" lift. The 4" is $460 with springs vs. blocks, Is there a differance? If springs are really better than blocks ill get the 4".

For up to a 4" lift, springs are better.  After that, the arch lessens the droop, or down travel, and is harsh.  So, I would recommend the spring lift for now.

Id like 35s, but theres the problem of money. I have 190 towards the 460 i need for the lift,(plus like 90 more for longer brake lines) tires are gonna wait a long time. I have 2 good and 2 bald cooper mud terrains on my plow truck. (33s) Im gonna use the 2 good ones, and sell my new 31s and buy 2 new coopers, and sandblast and paint the rims they are on.
Oh, and do i need longer brake lines for a 4" lift?
Thanks. Tony

on the brake lines take them out of the bracket they are in factory get a piece of sheet metal and bolt it under the factory mount onto the framerail and run thr line through that. and on the tires get em used i paid 140 total for 4 35x12.50x15 with half tread and that included mounting and balanced

Good advice as to lowering the lines with a fabbed bracket.  At least on a 4 inch lift that is.  When I bought my truck with the 4 inch, it was like that, and looked solid.  When I went to an 8 inch ift, I went with longer lines.

Thanks. Though i was driving down main street, put on my brakes and my driverside rear tire locked up. My brake is hanging on that side so my lift money is gonna be brake money.

That's a 4" lift w/ 33s.  It had 35s before I bought it but when they wore out the guy bought 33s.  It needs 35s though.  Hopefully at the end of the month I'll have them.

I bought a 4in Rough Country with Blocks (I wanted and still want different Rear Springs... Pro Comp makes some I want)
I'm pleased with my lift so far, no problems. I did stick a little sheet of metal on my back breakline to give it a few more inches of clearance, as for my front I haven't done anything yet.

So far I still have my 31x10.50's on my truck, but when I can afford new tires I want to get 33s for clearance in the front.

This was as much flex as I could get with my stock brake lines. If your not planning on offroading, you shouldn't need new ones.

Oh and one other things about Rough Country lifts... the word "ROUGH" means something. The front springs are heavy duty and it made my truck ride like a real truck, some people might not like that, but I do :)

Well i dont care about the ride, my truck is pretty stiff now cuz i have quad shocks. I may go with the 6" lift with blocks, instead of the 4" lift with springs, plus its $35 cheeper!(for the 6")  But will i have to change driveshaft angles or anything??  I was also wondering if i would need to change the front sway bar in any way. And i have a y-pipe, so will the front driveshaft hit it when i lift the truck?
