I'm picking up a 79 short bed 4x4 tonight and wanted to know if anyone could give me some information on the transfer case. I haven't got to drive the truck yet but was told that 4 lo does not work. He said it was like being in neutral, but 4 hi works fine. My question is what could it be, could the linkage need to be adjusted, or do i need to rebuild the t-case? Thanks for any and all advice.

Could be linkage.  My 78 had no function in 4hi or 4lo when I got it, just hi and lo loc modes.  I drove it for a week or so that way as it had sat for 8 years and one day had it in lo loc and just threw it to lo and it kept going.  Did the same to hi and it works now too.  Do you have lockouts?  If so, the case must be converted to use them, if that was not done correctly, then that may be the problem.
