700r4 question
« on: July 07, 2015, 05:55:45 PM »
I have an 87 chevy with tbi injection but am switching to a carb setup. Do I still need computer controls for my 700r4 tranny? Or will it operate without? All there is on it is a 4 pin plug.

im not 100% sure i know someone on here does know. i can tell you this the 700r4 came out in 82 with no computers. the 4l60e (93+) needs a computer to shift the only thing you have to do is rig up a converter switch for the 700r4

this might help
and THIS might help even more

The 700r4 uses the TV cable for shifting and the computer for the LockUp Torque Converter.  When switching to a carb, make sure you get the TV cable hooked up at the right angle and adjusted properly.  You could run it without a computer but it wont go into lockup mode, which could lead to pre-mature failure of the transmission.

You can make you're own lockup switch by following the links irish posted, or there are some companies like TCI and B&M that make kits you can install.
