Title: transfer case won't stay in 4 high lock-cause and cures?
Post by: 1976er on November 14, 2010, 04:30:58 PM
Hi all, my 76 when up in the mountains keeps popping out of 4 high lock.  The shift lever actually goes back to the high two wheel mode by itself.  Any ideas as to why and what I need to do to correct this?  Kind of a pain having to manually hold the shift lever in high lock.  Thanks in advance

Check the linkage adjustment?

I agree, check linkage, mounts and the crossmember first.

Yea I checked all that when I picked this truck up.  It was way out of adjustment, guy I got it from had just installed different tranny (350) and had not adjusted linkage yet.  Maybe I should double check my adjustments.  Any other thoughts on what could be the cause?
