Power Steering Hoses: Is this correct?

If you look in this photo you can see the power steering line is about a milometer away from touching the exhaust manifold. When I had the engine out, I looked at it and there doesn't seem to be any other way to run the hoses as they have to be clocked that way, and one reaches over the other and won't fit otherwise. Is this the factory layout? Does this superheat the fluid when it's going through there?

I put a set of aftermarket hoses on my 84, and IIRC both hoses go under...I have a crappy camera, so I found this one on on the 67-72 forum....mine looks just like this setup...

That tube is your high pressure line.

Incorrectly installed.

Needs to be under the return line, the one with the clamp.

You might be able to do it without removing the pump...

Left alone, it will overheat the PS fluid and cause problems.

Johnny, I remember trying to mess with that when I was putting the new engine in and if I swapped those, the other hose wasn’t able to reach the pump because the high pressure line wouldn’t let it be close enough.

Do you think I should try bending these a bit, or is that too risky?

JP is right. Don't bend it, remove and reposition it correctly.
