Title: Opinions on gear ratio
Post by: Simitar on August 23, 2020, 03:50:03 AM
I have a 82 long bed. 383 stoker, 700r4, Holly 750 with 35" mud tires. Pretty much daily driver any suggestions on what ratio would be a good combination with that setup?

You run mud tires so the assumption is you go offroading too. 4.11:1 - 4.56:1 is a good range

I run 35’s with 4:10’s with a TH350 trans and  no overdrive, puts me at approximately 2200 rpm @ 55 mph.
With overdrive you would probably have a problem staying in overdrive at hwy speed and would be better with 4:56 gears if you plan on staying with the 35 tire which is actually closer to 34 when doing your calculations.
Lots of info on this topic on the WWW.
