rear end help. 73-87 88-99 99-06 widths
« on: June 11, 2015, 08:26:19 PM »
I have a 86 c10 suburban  and the rear end is junk im rebuilding it as i go. I was wondering if anyone knows the width (wms-wms) of the 10b,12, 14b sf and 14b ff for each set of years. I know ill have to move modify spring perches and shock mounts. I know where i can get a 00 chevy 1500 rear end its a 8.6 10b with disc brakes and was wondering how much wider it is. Only thing ive found is that the 88-98 is wider then 73-87 years and the 99-06 is wider then 88-98. I also found out that the 2wd are narrower then the 4x4.

Don't rule out full sized GM Caprice if you can do the welding.  I've heard they will work as well.

that would be 65" for 2wd and 68" for 4wd. I have both and have measured them both wms to wms. You will need to move the spring perches to match yours.
You will want the 2wd version.

The 14sf also have 1350 u joints. You will need a conversion u joint and also I believe the 14 sf is about an inch longer at the yoke iirc, so you may or may not run in to drive shaft length trouble.
