« on: June 22, 2022, 06:43:55 AM »
Hi All

does anyone know a solution by a transmission swap 6L80e on a K30 for the Column-Shifter? Is there any to exchange from another model which would fit?
I dont want loose my bench for using a floor-Shifter.
Display will be shown bei Dakotaldigital instruments, but i am not sure about the mechanical system.

Thanks

It has the common sized GM shaft and retainer nut for the shifter. You should be able to adapt your linkage to it. 1991 column had overdrive so if you can find the indicator for one of those, I think you would be pretty close to looking stock.

thanks for fast reply - i checked what you mean with the indicator as missunderstanding in foreign language can be a big trap: this mechanical display will be gone in our swap with dakotadigital. But this of course must also got anywhere the info for display digital. As far i know will it be connected with the transmission controller and should got from there the info. You see on this i am not doing this job alone. My son is Car and truck mechatronics and will do all the electronic on it and me the mechanical part. But he have no expierence in US-Cars and Trucks as we are in Germany. Special differences to european technic need to be research. We know the usual differences of course but in our rebuild we find always hidden facts of differences and it is wise to ask before you spent a lot of money in wrong parts.
I guess than i need to adapt the linkage, what of course for any change in transmission will be to do and can hopefully stay with the steering column mechanic which handle the linkage for shifting.
That was what we not could verify: Will the stock-steering-column-shifter mechanic work with the linkage on the transmission or is there more what i have to adapt.

The detents are in the transmission not in the column so you should be able to make it work.

We was not sure about that issue.
So we need now only the patience to wait until the drivetrain will be deliver in December
But there are still some jobs to do for finish the rebuild

If you have trouble to adapt the stock linkage to the transmission, Flaming River makes a couple of different universal kits. One is basically just a rod with heim joints that you can bend to whatever shape you need. The other is a Boden cable setup with a machined aluminum bracket that clamps to the steering column. I don't prefer the rod linkage because then with any movement of the cab and/or the rotation of the engine from torque, it can make the linkage shift. The Boden cable setup is better for this, but it is a bit complex. The stock linkage in my mind is the simpler solution.

If it end up in trouble it is good to know where i can achieve parts to solve it.
Thanks for this info.  8)
In Germany, spare parts are virtually unavailable and if at all then overpriced. So I started to import the spare parts myself via a service provider. The service provider does not research where I can get parts, I have to do that myself.
End of year will i know which way we will go. I dont want a weak or temporary solution.
A cable setup had i seen on other solutions and it was at first in my mind.

I live in a small town between the city-triangle Dortmund - Münster - Hamm
Countryside is always nice here. I love it to see on Mondays who will visit us Friday  ;D

Your Deutsch maybe much better than my english.
Writing is ok but talking is really hard. Thats why i dont phone to vendors in USA. I would not understand if someone use Slang or speak fast.
My enginebuilder is in the Netherlands so i need to talk english but not on phone. Face to Face is the best to see if we talk about the same thing.
I couldnt find an enginebuilder in germany who want build and perform us an V8-Diesel-Engine. About AMGeneral could i found the enginebuilder in the netherlands. Beside this will it need much effort here to got a roadapproval for the swap. We had before we start several talks and meetings with the roadapproval office and the engineer who will make that technical test. We have a lot of restriction but could manage finally all.
It will be the only truck of its kind in germany  8)

You have to deal with too many regulations.

Yes but i like challenges.

If you talk objectively with the engineer, some things are possible. He only has to follow rules that he did not make. We have fortunately caught a tuning lover who loves the special. You will not find an US diesel pickup in this range in Germany - so it is unique. Here tuning is limited to noble brands and in the sports car sector.
Since we do not present a race car and also no exaggerated Colt-Seavers lift but only want more power for a work truck, the restrictions are manageable only just because it represents an individual testing with emission value and noise determination as well as braking effect and speed limit (and other minor tests) it is correspondingly expensive.

The chances of success for a positive acceptance are to talk to the authority and the engineer about the planned changes beforehand and to make sure that they agree.  ;D

If you have enough money, a complete prototype of a vehicle can also be made and got a road approval, but then it can easily be over 100000 euros costs because here the material is also tested, which can also mean that the prototype is destroyed.

With a power increase from 156 to 280 HP we are in an affordable framework.  8)

The 6L80e seems not to be compatible to the 6.5 V8 Diesel engine specially as it need a Can Bus Network with engine electronic.
So we will use a 4L80e in our drivetrain, nevertheless the latest generation of 4L80e shall also had an internal controller for Can Bus Network.
The earlier generation of 4L80e are prooved for convertation on the old engines and should work well with a good aftermarket controller

There are stand-alone controllers for the 6L80e, but they are not inexpensive. $1,100 USD: https://stores.lsxeverything.com/6l80e-6l90e-standalone-controller/
