Need rear speaker mounts
« on: August 14, 2022, 09:07:45 AM »
I have some good working 4x10 speakers behind my seat. But there is a problem. They don't fit well in the holes in the corner of the cab. 1987 truck. Single cab.

I have heard that you need some mounting plates. Right now the magnet hits the back. Should I get 6x9" mounting plates? Would 4x10" speakers fit well enough in those?

Thank you.

You can easily find the "Rear speaker mounting brackets" by doing an internet search. They might be used!

I have a set that worked/work very well at a very good price.  You'll know who it is as soon as you find his thread.

I guess I'm searching wrong. It only comes up with this thread. Found some on amazon, made from aluminum. Should do just fine

I had my brackets covered in the same materail as the seat & door panels. I added a plywood spacer between the bracket and speaker ring for large magnet clearance. The brackets fit very well and are solid.

No I already have those. Trouble is they won't fit a modern 4x10. Which I also have.

The 4x10 magnet is too big. So I thought maybe the 6x9 bracket would be better because the hole would be moved. But seeing Geezer's plywood idea makes me want to try that before I order. I could just make some little spacers that would move the 4x10 speaker out so the magnet wouldn't contact the cab. But it's gonna be way out. Maybe 4x10's are just outdated and should go the way of the dinosaur.

I seem to remember something about putting the left speaker bracket on the right and the Right bracket on the left to have more room for the magnet.  IIRC, but you will have to redrill some holes.

In any event and with any combo of products please remember to limit these back side speakers to "bass" only.

High freq's are LOST firing into the proximity of our rear end...

If you don't have the electronic ability to steer bass to these speakers, you can snip the lead going to the mid range/tweeter.

The intelligibility will be your reward... 8)
