1976 K10 12 bolt rear end question

I jacked up my rear end to try to fix my leaf spring slap and decided to spin my rear wheels. I could only spin my wheels in reverse and the left one had no effect on the right (meaning if you turn one the other didn't move) and the right had no effect on the left. Is this normal or not?

Its an open differential. If both spun you would have a posi, or a limited slip of some form.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Well I brought the 76 in to a buddy's shop and it looks like the ring and pinion gear need some dental work because they are missing some teeth. The spider gears were looking sharper than they are supposed to be as well. Looks like I am dropping some cash into it but it's better to do it now then to have it leave me stranded some where.

I am finally getting my truck back today. They had to replace ring and pinion gears, along with the spider gears and the carrier because one the spider gears had welded itself to it. I am not doing cartwheels over this but at least I get a brand new rear end out of it.. I will let you know how it is when I pick it up today..

ive seen em lose a tooth, that tooth gets jammed in between the gears , locking up the rear tires at highway speed , causing a crash

It's not the best situation, but I am glad it is done with and now I know my rear end is good
