Front Springs
« on: April 29, 2006, 10:31:00 AM »
I installed new springs on my truck and its sitting about 2" higher on the front.I know they will settle down some. The frame is a 3/4 ton .Is there a difference in frames at the front in height compared to a 1/2 ton?I am using the 1/2 ton crossmember and suspension parts.

How long does it take for new springs to settle down?

Your springs don't need to settle. Sounds to me like you installed the wrong springs. Get a 2" spacer kit for $40 bucks and raise the rear

Has anybody used some kind of spring compressing clamp to bring springs down? My supplier checked the part # and the springs are supposed to be correct.

I like the look of that stance. I think the pre-80 2wd trucks with the non sloping front end look better with a lttle extra lift and some 30's or 31's all around. Just seems to fit the beefiness / boxiness of the body better.. Mine needs a little height.

Can you give me the part numbers of the springs and the spacers you used? Where did you get them from?

Thanks

The front springs are SUPPOSED to be regular small block springs but they are not.I don't know what these springs actually are.I just didn't want to go thru the agony of changing them ,so I followed Vile's advice and levelled off the back.So then I just ordered a basic 2" lift kit from a KEYSTONE catalog at the nearest parts store around here.(Canadin Tire)

Maybe somebody knows of a simple way to achieve the same results, but there's no way for me to find out.Sorry.

Thanks. I guess I'll stick with the plan I had of using 1 ton / 454 Springs in front and the 6 leaf Springs off the back of the 85.

Thats probably what was in the box.Big block springs. One ton springs should pick you up just fine.
