Title: AC Middle Vent

Hey, all!  New member, first post.  I have an '83 C10 that I enjoy working on and driving.  However, before I take the dash apart, I thought I would ask:

There is NO air that is coming out of my middle AC vent.  It comes out on the two driver's vents, and the passenger's right one, but not the middle.   As it seems all connected, any idea what the problem could be?  Thanks so much!

The upper vent in the dash bezel shares the same discharge tube as the vent to the right of it. If you have airflow from the top dash bezel vent and not from the one above the ashtray then I would say it is not connected to the vent. Mastic tape does wonders for improving airflow by sealing up the connections.

Does a previous owner count as a rodent problem???? >:(  I took the dash pad off and found that they had fiberglassed the vent in from the backside of the dash - upside down.  It looks like they had broken the studs for the adapter to fit in the back. 

So here's my question now:  Does the vent outlet adapter mate up with the studs from the vent?  Or from the dash molding piece?  Or the pad itself?

When you remove the instrument panel plastic bezel, parts 41 and 42 in your diagram will be attached to the bezel.  You have to remove all the bezel perimeter screws and then slip the bezel straight out until the vent outlet slips off the vent in the dash.  There are no screws holding the outlet to the in-dash vent behind it.  It is just clipped (maybe screwed) onto the bezel.

41 and 43 are attached to the dash pad trim panel. You disconnect the hose behind the glove box and remove the dash pad. The air tube is held in by a screw at the top above the heater control panel and one screw to the right of the ash tray. Someone probably hacked it up putting a radio in place of the dash vent once upon a time.

Got it!  Thanks!  It was a mess.  But I've got a new molding on order.  The vents themselves look pretty good.
