long tube headers
« on: October 19, 2014, 05:21:05 PM »
Has anyone found a set of long tubes that fit our trucks with LS engines? I've read all over the internet that this and that are close of don't fit at all but never a definite yes. If I cant find anything I'm going to use BBC headers and LS flanges buy it'd be nice to just buy a set that will fit

both jegs and summit offer conversion headers from several different companies both long tube and shorties. they are suppossedly made specifically for ls swaps into c10s. do none of these work?
http://www.summitracing.com/search/year/1974/make/chevrolet/model/c10-pickup/part-type/headers/header-style/full-length/engine-swap/yes?N=4294950312%2B4294951398%2B4294949503%2B4294924068%2B4294924031%2B4294948160&SortBy=Default&SortOrder=Ascending

just an example. there are many more. this swap has become pretty common. i know of 5 squarebody ls trucks just in my immediate area. point is, more companies are coming out with conversion parts for this swap every week seems like.

has anyone tried the Gibson GP139s ?..made specifically for c10 trucks with LS swaps , no modifications?.. I plan on ordering a set soon....$500 for Ceramic coating isn't bad compared to Doug T's or Schofield, or Pacesetters that might fit with persuasion... any thoughts?

I know nothing about those but I would call and ask if they were designed on a 67-72 and they should fit a 73-87, or if they were designed on a 73-87 and they fit 67-87.  The latter is true, the former is not in most cases as the firewall placement is drastically different.  I would also ask who's engine mounts are required and if the engine is mounted in the same spot as a SBC.  A lot if 67-72 specific mounts put the motor about 6" forward.  Tried these out a long time ago.

ok, didn't go with the Gibson's...money factor...went with schoenfeld 1302ls1.. and they fit like a glove...I have 84 c10--- I know they say 88-98 but the fit the 84...only issue I have is I have to move my o2 sensor because the gear shift linkage is hitting the 02 sensor...just going to move the bung hole...no biggie...

I also went with the Hedman Muscle Rod headers, but they only guarantee fit with their mounts.

I used Pacesetter Trail Blazer SS headers.  I only trimmed the frame very slightly to keep from scratching the finish on install.  The ONLY issue I had was the placement of the drivers side O2 sensor.  It pointed right at the gear selector.  Other than that, they fit very well and tuck under the frame.

I got ebay speed daddy F body long tubess and they didn't fit worth a crap. Definitely avoid them. Both sides are in the shackles, the driver side collector is pointing right in the frame rail. I have an NV4500 with the slave on the pass side, under the starter, I had the flatten the side if the primary to get it out of that. I got them on and they were only like $160, but I've had them on and off probably 30 times, I've cut and welded and heat and beat and they are still real tight. So there's my review, don't be cheap. I see that this is an old post, but it has plenty of views to merit a response in hopes of helping future swappers.

I had researched this topic earlier this year when I wanted to find affordable headers that would drop right in for my 5.3 swap.  During my search I came across a company named Speed Engineering. http://www.speed-engineering.com/  They sell a bunch of LSX conversion products, specifically they sell long tube headers for the C10 LS swap.  I purchased their headers and couldn't have been happier.  They dropped right in without any interference or modification.

Polished 304 Stainless with 3" collectors.  You can buy them with either 1-3/4" or 1-7/8" primaries.  Under $300.

I was very impressed with the bend quality, weld quality, and fit of these headers.  Check them out.

Hey Tim, thank you for this post. I'm planning my swap now into a 86 gmc c10. I'm going to buy these headers after reading what you said  everything else I've researched had some figment issues.
What did you use for motor mounts? I have a th400. Did you buy a modded harness? Thanks in advance.
