Another header question?
« on: March 30, 2016, 11:49:36 AM »
I ordered some hooker full length headers and the passenger side would not fit, I'm sending them back and looking at a set from headman they say their for my year but I am afraid I'm going to run into the same problem?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 83 c10 shortbed

So why didn't they fit? Did you remove the starter?

Yes I removed the starter but I would of had to re route my exhaust around the crossmember
And I was looking for something that would of fit without any issues? I also have a bell tech 4/6 lowering kit and they were going to rub on the ground if I hit a bump. I have some no name long tube headers on it but there just really old and not in good shape.

They have been making headers for these applications for so long I am surprised you can still buy a set with fitment issues for sbc applications.

this thread might be helpful. i dont think they make headers that are a direct bolt in over the crossmember long tube design

I have Headman Headers on my build. They fit perfect. I had to move the gas lines and a brake line on the passenger side. I was able to put the passenger side on from above and the drivers side from below after removing 2 spark plugs. I have a double hump on my trans cross member (one hump on each side). My headers lined up with the humps pointing under the cross member.

I bought Headman part #69090. They ave the ball and socket type collector.  I have Sportsman II heads with angle plugs and this is what I had to have. If you don't have angle plugs, you might be able to use another part number. I bought mine from Summit Racing.

Contact Summit and ask them a question and they'll email back with the info on the headers for your build.

I wound up welding my old headers where they broke and I'm going to have them coated. Thanks for all the help.

I have an 87 r10 305tbi 700r4. Long tube headers will hit every time. You need to get a set of headman mid-length headers and you won't have any problems. They have them in paint or ceramic coated.
