Can I ask?
« on: July 17, 2017, 05:37:48 PM »
I am getting used to driving my b92 GMC but it will never replace my 87.It drives nice, sounds great, and the air works super which important this time of year.
Now it has its fuel pump in the tank as the 87 did but I do not hear it start when I turn the key, is that normal? I have also been told that these 305's had an issue with the manifold gaskets failing much earlier than usual, anyone know if this is true?

Thanks,

its pretty much the same setup. you should hear the pump prime when the key is first turned "on". if not the fuel pump relay could be bad, on a cold startup does it take 5 or so seconds of the engine turning to start?

I remember some of the OEM fuel pump assemblies having one of these and the replacements not having it

They said it's the same from 87-92. What it does is cuts the noise down from the pump.

No it starts just fine but it does not like to go 25 mph till its warmed up. It can stumble but never dies.

seams like you have a few issues

is your check engine light on?
does it come on when you turn the key "on"
how to retrieve OBD codes

how to test TBI sensors

Meter the coolant temperature sensor, make sure the ecu is getting the right reading. This may not set a lamp.

The 87-93 TBI motors were pretty much the same.
