Need Help NP203
« on: March 29, 2005, 12:09:00 PM »
I just recently bought a 75 K10 and the tranny was trashed. I just put a rebuilt 350 in this last weekend, but the only gear that will move the truck is High Loc (HLOC) in the transfer case. If I try any of the other positions, you can hear the transfer case and the front drive shaft spinning. Any ideas ? I don;t see how it would only work in one position. Thanks !

has it been converted to parttime drive?
If the frontdrive line is spinning, with no movement, it sounds like  your front hubs are not locking in....you might try taking them apart, cleaning and inspecting for damage... I would take a good look at your linkage on your transfer case, if it is not adjust correctly, it could cause some of the same symptoms...
course that doesn't explain the lack of motion in the back though does it.
any one else have any ideas?
good luck.

As far as I can tell, it has not been converted over to part time (yet). After I posted this, I read through all of the posts that had to do with transfer cases or 203 and found some other guys that had problems with the shifters. I checked mine last night and it is definately one of the problems. Is there an aftermarket shifter I could get ? The other problem is that only one of the front wheel hubs has a hub lock (passenger side). The other wheel just has a plate over the hub ??

That is definately a problem.  If the case has not been converted, it will use axles with the "plates" over the hub.  If it has been converted, it will use either lockouts or the plates, but never both.

Well, I took the shifter off last night and attempted to clean it up. Good luck. I had to go ahead and take the thing apart (marked the pieces as I took them off), when I started to put it back to gether, I don;t see how this thing ever worked. The shifter plates are too close together where the shift rods connect. There is no way it would work. I know I put it back together the way I took it apart. I marked each piece with my number punch set on the side facing up (to me) so I couldn;t get them in backwards etc. I have only found one after market shifter that's $170.00 (twin stick) but at this time I don;t want to put that much into a shifter. I have other parts that need to be taken care of first. Any ideas ?? Does anyone have an old stock shifter for an NP203 ??

I would definately be interested in just the shifter. I found another person that made his own twin stick shifter for his 203. The plans called for an extra shifter to use one of the plates. Let me know what you want for it. You can email me at jr@logixonline.com

Hope someone sees this reply. I have another question about the TH350/NP203 setup. I have seen allot of posts not only here but a few other places about NP203/205's put together. When this is done, is there anything else that has to be done as far as drive shafts shortening/lengthening ? I have been driving this truck for about 2 weeks now and it has give me nothing but fits ! Among multiple little problems that I should have taken care of before actually putting it on the street, my front driveshaft busted yesterday. Where the shaft meets the TC. Now I have to find a yoke to go on the TC. I would rather go to a NP205 case, but at this point I don't want to go through all the "hassle". I guess my real question here is : Is there something I could replace the TH350/NP203 with that I won;t have to do the driveshafts ? Something I can have the 2WD/4WD option with. Any help is appreciated.
