Hi guys don here 81 c10 short stepside. I just installed jegs 16 circut harness and can't get the turn signals on the drivers side to work on their own. And the top light comes on even in low beam.
-
so do the l/s turn signals come on when the hazards are on? Is the top light a hi/low beam light? do both sides come on?
-
The left side does work with hazards on the top light is the one with two prongs and yes both sides come on
-
how are the grounds? you didn't put them on a painted surface did you?
-
I just redid all the grounds
-
The hi beams are very very dim when it's on low beam setting. Hi beams work great when in hi beam setting. T/s don't work when headlights are on
-
Here's a picture
-
is your left side bulb burnt out? its not lit up in the pic.
-
i would think its a bad connection
-
Are you saying your headlights come on without the switch and the left turn stays on or?
I sounds like you have something wired wrong.
-
No I cut them loose to see if it had an effect and no it didn't. I'm about to loose my mind all grounds good I jumped the switch. And dimmer switch still same thing
-
No the switch works fine when I turn the lights on the low beam setting the pic is what it does you can see the top lights very dim. When I turn hi beams on they work the way they are supposed to
-
In the pic the lows look pretty bright to me. Don't compare them to new cars if you are using stock lamps. Cars behind me flood out my factory type bulbs on low...
-
I have them in the wron spot the bottom supposed to be high right?
-
tops low, all 4 are high or the bottom
-
I'll change them when I get home but I don't think that would be the problem. Captkaos, I found a relay wiring diagram on here for the headlights, it made them a lot brighter
-
Still no progress,it's killing me I have a groung from bat to chassis to radiator support to lights
-
And all T's flash when left blinker on right only when right blinker
-
I think I am confused. What is the problem now? What is T's? Turn?
-
Sorry t/s turn signals
-
So when the Left turn is selected all turns flash?
-
Yes. Unless the headlights are on,then they all just get bright
-
I would check your wiring, you got something crossed.
-
I fixed the blinker Prob,it was a bad socket and the wires were crossed. The headlights,hi beams still dim on low beam That's on the agenda tomorrow
-
I have an81 stepside when I turn the head lights on all four lights come on, the top two are really dim lower two bright, when I turn the hi-beams on all four are really bright. Now are the three prong bulbs the hi or the low?
-
I just checked bolts on the hi-beam bulb and I have 9 when low beam is selected. Can any one shed light on this??
-
The 2-prong bulbs are high beam. The 3-prong bulbs are low and high beam. The upper lamps should be the low/high beam pair.
The symptoms suggest poor ground connections. Unplug all the headlamps and wash the connector terminals with WD-40. Plug each connector back up to its headlamp and unplug it several times, repeatedly, to clean the connections.
Factory wire colors are:
- Green - high beam
- Tan - low beam
- Black - ground
Make sure each headlamp is properly grounded to the steel radiator support through its black wire. Then make sure the radiator support is grounded directly to the battery. You may need to disassemble the ground wire connections to the sheetmetal and clean them thoroughly to shiny bare metal using sandpaper. Reassemble with a liberal coating of antioxidant paste.
-
I cleaned all the grounds now it's dimmer I'm going to buy new headlights all the plugs are new
-
Are you running the factory style sealed beam headlamps? Although it's true that lamps gradually dim with use, you also could have wires crossed at the back of the low beam lamps.
