Title: 1982 K30 Dually 4X4 axle swap questions
Post by: Deercreekfarm on February 20, 2020, 03:36:09 PM
Found me a new project truck. It’s a 1982 K30 4X4 Dually. This will be a frame off restoration rebuild from the ground up. Starting with the axles:

Currently she is sitting on a D60 front axle (dually set up) and a D70 tear axle dual rear wheel. Both are geared in 4:10. I have a 14 bolt FF 1 ton rear axle off of a military CUCV geared in 4:56 with a Detroit Locker. I know the 14B will bolt right up in the rear so here is my question on the rear axle:

1) Will the 4:10 gears in the D70 direct swap into the 14 bolt and vice versa?

The front D60 axle from what I understand, can have the hubs turned (machined) down or replace the dually hub set up for SRW hub set up. Here is my question on the front axle:

2) Has anyone turned down there front axle DRW hubs and what’s the process?

Thanks,
