installing/fixing a/c and heater.
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:06:30 AM »
i'd like to have an air conditioner AND heater. right now i've got nothing!

i think though, that i'd mainly like to get my heater working as i've got a feeling this winter is gonna be harsh.

what do i need to have a working heater? im not sure where to start as i dont really understand a/c or heating systems.

I would just save the $ and go to the junk yard and get what you need. Did your truck originally have AC?

It had an ac and heater. Neither worked when I got it so I pulled the ac compressor. It still has everything else attached. Wires has long been hacked by the tme I got it so I didn't know how to fix it.

Hopefully it isnt completely hacked.  Mine was hacked at the compressor, or rather where the compressor used to be, but the wiring was left hanging.  The wiring goes along the firewall where it looks like it plugs into the main wiring harness, I disconnected it from there in hopes to find the rest of what I need in the future.  I'm in the same boat as you (minus the no-heat, it throws heat out like a furnace!) so I'll be watching your thread for when I have to do mine.  Best bet is to find a donor and transplant the entire system, taking detailed pics for us of coarse!

Use a test light and see if you have power to your blower motor...  That is where you should start to diagnose your problem.
