Went to the local car show yesterday, not a great pic, but I parked next to another square body.  There was a 68 just down the row.

Starting to use the truck like a truck. Light trailer use this weekend for a friends couch.

I must not have the parking brake set right, drove about 6 miles before realized it was on. Smoke coming out. Took off the brake, drove remaining two miles to my destination, everything was cool by then.  Do I assume I just screwed it all up and order new drums and pads for the inevitable rebuild?  It’s PIA taking the rear drums off, imo.

On my way back, began smelling gas. Some sort of leak developed at the tank. Hopefully I just screwed up the hose clamp but have to pull the gas tank to find out.  Got it home okay.

Not a good weekend, but at least I’m fixing the problems now.

Thanks, we’ll see.

I pulled the gas tank today, think it’s the brass fitting, maybe wrong style, will try some proper ones tomorrow.  I’ll get different clamps too.

Anybody know the proper glue to put in the threads?  I’ll ask at  the auto parts store when I get the new fittings.

Adjusted the parking brake cable while I was down there.  But I still need to pull the drums.

Hi Shifty, thanks. I look in the website No 1 is hardening, looks like the right stuff. When I search for “aviation”, I see No 3, non hardening, different stuff for horses.  I expect aviation is a general term.

Crossing my fingers nothing is cracked and it’s just using the wrong stuff.

Have you actually verified from where fuel is leaking? 

Regarding the fuel pickup fittings, what type of threads are involved (e.g., NPT, inverted flare, AN)?  Unless the fittings are NPT, thread sealant shouldn't be necessary.  If they are NPT threads, they should seal using 2-3 wraps of yellow PTFE tape.  Is it possible that the fittings are incorrect for the pickup?

Sorry...it was the #3....but thinking on it further, I'd go with the Permatex high-temp thread sealant, since it looks like in your pic that you are using pipe thread fittings.

Looks great man! You should be on cloud 9, right?

The ONLY thing I would suggest would be to black out the components behind the grill... ;)

I used permatex no 1.  Application instructions says it works for this.  It said two hours to operational, 24 hours to cure. I waited 3, tested fora minute and no leaks. I don’t recall what I used before, but it was soft and blue. I think it was the aviation glue I found that recommendation, but specs says it stays soft. It’s been close to three years, hard to believe.

I replaced the clamps and the adapter too.

We’ll go for a drive tomorrow, probably 18 hours after.

Thanks for the suggestions and help! Let’s see if it holds.

Thanks Johnny! I’m really looking forward to solid driving.  Kind of wish I’d done a different grille, haha if I paint the radiator behind it, hmmm I hadn’t thought of that!

I dunno, the grill goes with the wheels....but yeah, I'd paint the radiator as well.
