Title: Swapping my 208 for a 205
Post by: DTrain on March 28, 2012, 10:18:42 PM
I have an '84 k10 Silverado. Right now it has from the factory an sm465/208 setup. I'm about to swap that with a sm465/205 setup. From the '79 donor truck I have the tranny/transer case, crossmember, drive shaft and axles. I know the driveshafts will work seeing as I have axles from a '78 on the truck now. So I'm wondering if everything else is an easy swap? My question is will the crossmember more or less bolt right up? What else is there to look forward to? Any input on the swap would be much appreciated. Thanks

If you are swapping the whole thing is should bolt right up.

I figured as much, it looks like it would be an easy swap, but wasnt sure if there was something I'm missing. With this swap happening, I'm now gonna have another 4speed on the shelf. The one I have now is a sm465/205 setup from a '76, I figured that would be good to keep around for parts, seeing how its splined the same and all with the '79 setup I'm about to put in.

Yup, should be a simple swap.
