I had a fullsize with a 4.3 and I dont think that you could make it hot enough to make any kind of difference.  I have also had a hot 4.3 in a S-10(supercharger and all), the little truck was quick and had tons of power but this was all due to the weight of the truck.  That same motor in my 84 would have been slow.

I'd love to put a 455 in my truck. Doesn't matter which really: Buick, Pontiac or Olds. They all make power amazingly easy it seems. Determine which stock heads were good for power, put a decent size cam in, good flowing intake, carb and exhaust and you've got a 13 second machine. Follow HAULIN IT's recipe and you could have a 12 second mild-mannered truck!  Either that or a Caddy 472/500. Any of those would just be too cool.

Turbo'd 4.3 from the Sy/Ty as mentioned already was as ballsy if not more so than the GNX motor.

Speaking of GNX, I read something horrifying lately: a GNX was actually turned into the Cash 4 Cars rebate program.  :o   According to a list in Hot Rod magazine anyway.

Come to really think about it... The 262 V6 would look microscopic in our huge engine bays! You could basically stand under the hood to change spark plugs! I still like this motor though. I'll never forget my 4.3TBI 2 door B-body that was a blast to drive. Until Mustangs wanted to play. >:(

I give respect to the Syclones/Typhoons, but dont like the exhaust sound of a V6. I like a little rumble to the exhaust

A lot of modern sixes sound weeny, I have to admit...but there's just something about a classic inline that gets me everytime. I used to have an old Ford 1/2 ton that everyone swore had a V8 until I opened the hood....300 inline six rumble!

Inline 6's do sound pretty good in my opinion. Im planning on installing a split exhaust manifold, and Clifford intake on my 51. It would sound good to me because it matches the era of the truck. An I6 would be ok in our trucks, I just dont like the sound of a V6. I like the 4.3 engine, but would do my best to keep the exhaust stock.

In 87 wasn't much difference between the 4.3 and the 305

When I had my hopped up 4.3 it sounded good with the dual exaust.  With the cam it had in it most people couldn't belive that it was a v-6.
