I am having problems with my 79 with the 400 starting recently. When I go to start it it fires right away and if it takes off running it will run great , but if it does not start on the first fire it will not fire/start again. I checked and when i hit the starter the fuel pump is doing its job, there is plenty of fuel coming up. When it doesn't start if i hit it with a shot of starting fluid or gas directly down the carb it will fire up and be good to go. This all started after I had the edelbrock off of it the other day to clean it up and since i put it back on its been acting up and I cant figure it out. The choke is not stuck at all so thats not it either. I don't know if the float level could do this or what it is?

Check the fuel lines for kinks, fuel filter installation. Check the sock filter, check the float level.
