Assembly order when refitting doors.
« on: December 15, 2023, 12:15:59 PM »
Hi all, I'll soon be refitting the doors on my truck, 76 C10 longbed, and would like to get opinions on the best order to reassemble them once they are back on the truck, i.e.windows, locks, vent window, etc?
I think the locks first so I can secure the doors closed?
So what comes next?
Thanks
Graham

It seems that you have to disassemble them in a manner that follows an order.

I would (if possible) document the order of disassembly and then reverse.

I recently took down the interior of the passenger side of a '80 C10, but did not document, and have since forgotten... ::)

I think I'm going to document the drivers side so as to follow the reverse for both.

I am assuming you have a door shell...
door lock, Door latch, door handle (outside), window lift assembly, window weatherstripping, vent window assembly, inner door latch.

Hi Capt. yes I have all the components just wanted to know the best order to refit them, I think I took out the vent windows first then the door glass and the lock but as I will have new seals to fight with wondered if anyone had any tips and tricks to share?

Thanks Capt, yes I did see that, any extra hints to make the job go smoothly?
Waiting for some parts tomorrow including the door hinge springs, how do they go on?

Not sure what your experience level is on doing it but watch your knuckles and take your time.  when greasing the tracks make sure you have gloves on and remove them before putting the weatherstripping in.

Thanks all for the tips, dodging heavy rain just now so doing a bit of welding on the fenders before I paint them ready to fit once the doors are back on so plenty to keep me busy!

Hi All, rain hardly seems to have stopped since my last but grabbing time in between the storms I now have both doors fitted, glass in new weather stripping and door locks inside and out.
Gaps look good and even all round, fenders are painted all ready to fit but stil need to strip and paint the wheel wells and radiator support panel, also I am fitting new cab mounts, all the bolts came loose without any dramas so a big sigh of relief there!
Will keep you posted as I move forward.

The cream on the rh B post is still to be painted and the rh bedside so you can get a before and after. First time at a full bare metal respray, I'll probably need to go over the first panels again as the quality improved as I progressed! Will leave it until the weather is kinder though as I don't have anywhere big enough to get the truck under cover.
Any thoughts on the wheels, they need painting as I can't afford new ones but not sure about colour?
