1985 Crew Cab Dually
« on: September 23, 2014, 09:31:43 AM »
I just bought a 1985 C30 dually with a flatbed, I want to put the original bed to go on it but have been told if the truck was ordered without a bed and the flatbed was installed later that the rai;s were different.......is this true?

Yes and no.  From what I've experienced it that if it was a cab and chassis (no bed) the holes to mount the bed is not on the frame.  The shape/width of the frame was the same.  Easy to look under and see.  Here is my 84 C30, I had to drill the frame to mount just to find the wheelbase was 4 inches longer than the standard pickup

I also have a 82 Single cab C30 with the same wheelbase as yours, I measured the Crew Cab and its the same as a regular long bed truck. Thanks, I don't mind drilling a few holes to mount the stock bed, just was not looking forward to any major mods. :)

If you still have the original sticker in the glovebox, it will give you a model #.  I have the 85 book and can look it up for you.

The CC30943 doesn't get specific enough unfortunately.  Can you post a picture of that sticker?

No (E63 Fleetside body) with the (ZW9 base body and chassis) to me is it came without a bed from the factory.  What I can't tell you is if the frames differed since it is the same wheel base as the others.  Sorry but you are going to have to check.

Thanks anyway, I finally got hold of the original owner last night...... he says it did come chassis only and he took this bed off the truck mine replaced..... Bolt holes will have to be marked and drilled but rails are the same shape. I didnt think it would make sense to manufacture two different chassis for the same model truck. Appreciate your help tho, at least now I do have some history on the truck, and I know I am the third owner.....I'm happy..... ;D

Just for further information..... unless I change rear end I an limited to Flatbed or custom beds......trucks that were ordered cab and chassis had rearends that were about 6 (rough guess, have not measured) inches narrower than the Dually rearend.....makes my paint job cheaper....lol :D

from what i understand you can fit a bed over c&c rears, might have to trim a tad off the inside. but then you also might have to cut the frame/driveshaft to fit a bed.
