I just R&R'd my intake manifold because it was leaking. According to the factory gauge, it always ran a little shy of 210. Now it's running on the high side of that. It will hold 210 when driving and getting some airflow, but at stops it goes upwards towards what looks to be around 215-220, and it's 10 degrees outside. The thermostat is opening, the coolant is topped off, and everything else seems to be just as it should be, but it runs a little hot for my liking. I'm concerned with what it will be like when we start seeing warmer temps. Thoughts?
The system is clean, with new pump, radiator, hoses, fan clutch, and t-stat all within the last couple thousand miles, the shroud is in perfect shape, and it never put the needle over 210 until now. ???

I don't think so. I had a sterile O.R. and was pretty meticulous with it.

That's about the only thing left on the motor that I haven't swapped out, so definitely a possibility. I'm thinking pretty seriously about throwing some aftermarket gauges in just to have the redundancy. It's weird that the gauge behaves the same as before, it just reads higher.

I would verify that your gauge is accurate. Get a thermometer and see the actual coolant temp. Google
(Taylor Meat Thermometer Instant read Dial Thermometer - 501) I have one very similar in my vent in my company car that I use to measure paint temps when I need to. Very inexpensive, under $10. Some of the cheaper ones only go to 190 degrees but the Taylor-501 goes to 220

I'm going to buy a direct mount gauge and put it in the intake of mine so I have TWO readings, gauge and a mechanical right by the T-stat. You can get them at Jegs, direct mount thermometer and the adapter will screw right into the 1/2 ports in the manifold.

The laser thermometer says 190 degrees at the t-stat housing when the gauge reads 210. I think I'm getting interference at the sensor from the header tube. I have a new aftermarket gauge but I haven't put it in yet since this motor is getting replaced soon.

Try a new sending unit.

Sending unit, then check correct operation of guage.
