Considering stepping out of my comfort zone...
« on: December 22, 2014, 10:15:51 AM »
I am going to look at a 1988 R2500 Suburban with a TBI 454.  Thinking of using this engine to replace my ailing 4.1L and converting the 84 to TBI.  This should be interesting for me as I've never messed with a TBI before.  Stay tuned...

Just think of it as an electric carb that doesn't its own tuning.  They are really simple.

Complete driving 2 owner truck is less than a re manufactured engine.  I figure if I can only get 14 mpg with that slug of a I-6 I might as well have some fun going up 204 cubic inches.  I am going to need a bunch of coaching if I decide to go with it.

The truck has a nice bucket seat interior grey (nice in pictures anyway) which may solve my interior dilema on my 85 C20

My hopes is the 88 emission package is in-tact and should exceed the 84 levels.

This should be interesting.
I've picked up a 91 R2500 454 suburban that I haven't figured out what to do with.
Maybe watching your next move will lead me in the right direction.

Something didn't feel right so I passed.  Had a noise, probably a cracked flywheel because it didn't do it all the time but my main objection is an engine vibration that I didn't want to chance.  Beautiful grey interior, high back buckets and all...  I could have used parts on all 4 of my trucks and had a rolling storage unit to boot.  Pretty quick with a 4.10 gear set

That's all I use mine for. A 454 powered storage container on wheels.

Just got back from looking at a 1987 R3500 GMC cab and chassis with a utility bed on it.  It looks like an old telephone truck.  It is a sweet running 5.7L TBI with a brand new MC and radiator.  Will post pictures if the deal goes through...

It is here...  remote start and a 40 channel Cobra with weather band included...  First thing to sell the utility bed off of it.

Cool!  Is the chassis long enough to work with the measurements you wanted?

Perfectly... Now to talk a good friend out of his project truck and find a clean short bed.

But this original thread is to TBI my 84 C10... but going to do it in my 86 C10 since it has been waiting longer to feel some love.  Hope I can figure it out

Factory remote start or aftermarket alarm/start kit? I know remote start was offered as a factory option on the special edition "Ducks Unlimited" suburbans.
