Title: 2 piece drive shaft pinion angles
Post by: roadrage41 on August 03, 2011, 02:57:59 AM
First I know there are a million articles on the internet, that tell you a million ways to set these up.

Have any of you actually done it? Half the articles start out making sense, and then trail off into NASA science land. My angles are -5, -4, 1, 4. The rear is loosely bolted in, so I can set it to whatever, the common consensus for the dummy version seems to be set the rear to +5 and keep shimming the carrier til the vibration stops. As many lowered duallys as there are you'd think there would be some more precise info, but nope.

If the pinion is at -4 the yoke should be at +4.

Cap, do you read it as my settings right now would be good except that my operating angles are 3 degrees. For example if I had -4, -3, 1, 3 that would be acceptable, and if I had -3, -2, 1, 2 that would be perfect?

I am assuming a few things so correct me if I am wrong...  We are talking about your crew cab right?
tailshaft is -4, carrier is -3, slip yoke is 1 and diff yoke is 3?

On a crew you don't need to worry about the trans to carrier bearing, the angle from the carrier to the axle should be as close to matching as possible.
It looks like with the numbers (if I am reading it right) you are fine.

Think I've finally got the basic idea, need to get it up on jackstands with a full tank of gas and recheck angles.  Glad I went with the big tank and have to run 93.

If its on jackstands you are supporting the rear with the axle right?
