Hi, new to this forum.
Bought this truck a couple of weeks ago. It's an 82 Scottsdale 3/4 ton with 350 and TH400 transmission. Totally standard at the moment, still working out what I wanna do to it. Needs to go lower for starters! This is my first truck so any pointers or ideas would be appreciated ! 8)

nice and straight body looks like minimal surface rust just on bed . i
need your bed lol welcome to the site
-
lol thanks,
That rust is just round the propane filler, reckon the aftermarket conversion company didn't do a good job. Got some bubbles round the bottom of the arch trims too but nothing major.
-
propane filler is it a camping truck? if you want to lower it think maby you need to get rid of the clearance lights lol

Apologies, by propane I meant LPG - it runs off it! Much cheaper than gasoline atm!
Wouldn't be lowering it too much, maybe changing the tyres would help, want to band the steel wheels too, give them a slightly deep dish yet stock look.
-
Hey Laderhosen, that's a great find and in great shape too. In that kind of shape you have a pretty good start to any direction you want to go with. As long as you set your goal and stick to it, I'm sure it will turn out fine. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Cool Project ;D, Keep us all informed on progress

Welcome from the opposite end of the otherside of the Pond ;D Great Looking Truck! 8) Curious, what kind of Tank(s) do you have for the LPG, and what conversion has been done under the hood??? Any pics of your Setup??? Sorry for all the questions, just have been thinking about converting my truck or even my car.....

Cheers for the comments guys... ;D
The truck has one 60 litre (liquid capacity - works out to about 30 litre in LPG - not sure what that is in US gallons....?) tank in the bed, in front of the right wheel arch. I'll take some pictures . I bought it for a steal, and am still slowly getting to grips and working out how the LPG works, as this is the first vehicle I've ever had with LPG. It's just so cheap to run!
It has a switch on the dash to switch to gasoline, but it's not running on that at the moment, so it's a bit annoying as I only have about an 80 mile range before needing to fill up! I'm not sure exactly what the problem with it is, it's an 82 truck so has a mechanical pump, gonna check the fuel filter and all the basics first. Any suggestions? ??? Wondering if there may be a problem with some of the parts used for the conversion.

Welcome to the site. Nice truck!
-
Very nice truck, Laderhosen. There are 3.78 U.S. gallons per liter, so that's...WHOA- 226.8 gallons ?!
-
i believe there are numerous liters in a gallon, not the other way around. ;D
-
Think that sounds about right, think it's 3.78 litres per US gallon. So that means my 60 litre tank's just under 16 gallons :-\
Thanks for the comments, only problem with it is when I start it the wipers go 4 times?!?! Then every so often they'll do one sweep, like every half hour of driving or so. Anyone got any ideas?!
I've been told it's a common thing!
-
Yep, common. The delay controller is bad. The sad news is that these things cost ~$70 (that's usd) here. Lord knows what they'd cost there.
-
That's a clean lookin truck man!

:o
That is a lot! Maybe I'll leave it, it gives the truck character!
Thanks 78 Chevyrado

Dragon,
Here's some pics of the LPG system for you... Apologies for the quality, they were taken on a camera phone.
The LPG tank in the bed, next to the spare wheel I won on eBay the other day for 1 penny!!!!

Then where the LPG lines come out the firewall (once again there's rust from where the conversion company have done work >:( )

and finally where the lines go into the top of the carb...

Hope this helps. Joe

Painted the grill silver and got some hub caps, looks a little fresher I think... (apologies for the phone pics, for some reason everything looks bluey! Need to change the settings on my camera I think)

Very nice, welcome to the site
-
It looks more like mine now :D . With the exception of the color and the fleetside bed. Looks good.
-
Welcome to the site. I think your truck looks great. I would change the wheels and drive it. It's amazing what a nice set of rims can do to the look of a vehicle. We had a 83 crew cab dually that ran on propane.
-
A couple of updates on the truck...
Got my crossover box in, unfortunately had to get an unsightly notch cut out of it, in order for it to clear the LPG tank, but its usefulness outweighs its looks...
After buying a virtually brand new 89 front end set up ::), I found a field full of rusting blazers and suburbans owned by a farmer, pretty much gave me the greenlight to strip them for whatever parts I needed....
So I stripped the front end off of this 85 (couldn't believe how good the front panel was considering it had been sitting there 13 years!!) .... then got it shot blasted
(http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t253/dobbeuse2001/Photo0188.jpg)
Did these quick photoshops, still tryna decide what to go for, reckon the 87 set up suits it better.... ???

I like the suburban grill better

Finally got round to putting my new double headlight front panel on.

I know I've got the wrong headlight surrounds on for my grille, but want to put an 85 - 87 grille on.
-
That looks real good. I dont like the single headlight setup. Nice upgrade
-
Very clean truck, must be an odd site over there. Is it a gray market import?
-
Thats a great looking truck!
-
That's beautiful blue color, love it!
She looks much better than single headlights.
Stock grille with 1985-1987 duel headlight bezels looks much better.
-
I love the In n Out Burger sticker in the back window! I wonder how that sticker made it all the way over there.
-
Nice truck! It looks way better with the current headlight setup you have on it. I'm not a fan of the work truck looking single ones. Just my humble opinion, don't lower it! lol. But I can tell you one sweet upgrade for these old trucks is sound deadening. You have probly heard of Dynamat and all that. I put something similar to it in my truck and it kills most (of not all) of the road noise that you usually get when driving an older vehicle. It's very nice. And hey, at least you know the inside of that motor is squeaky clean. What with the propane, and all.
-
Very nice looking. Probably a bit of an unusual site over there, isn't it?
-
Thanks for the comments and replies guys.
In answer to your questions, yes they are an unusual site in this country, and were never officially imported by GM but by independant specialist dealers. Newer trucks are now quite a common site these days, the Dodge Ram being the most common, and Ford F150 Lightnings are imported in right hand drive.
The 'In And Out Burger' sticker was actually put on by the previous owner, who was a Californian guy living over here who had married an English woman. I kept it on there because I went to one whilst visiting the US.
Re your comment Skunksmash about not lowering it, I think I agree now and like the way it sits at the moment, I actually quite like being high up - my daily car is pretty low so it makes a nice change.
Put a set of headers and dual exhaust on the other week, here's some pics. You can see the headers, which for some STRANGE reason I painted silver, wish I'd done them black. The crappy 'high temperature paint' I had sitting round in my garage wasn't so high temp after all and has all peeled off. The centre section is stainless, which I had custom fabricated and has a crossover pipe. Have 2 turbo mufflers and the exhaust now exits behind the rear wheels - which I feel much more comfortable about. Wasn't too keep on the hot exhaust being right below the fuel tank cap! ::)
Since taking this pic I've given the engine bay a good clean with 'Gunk'.
