Transfer case problem !
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:37:35 PM »
Hi guys, New to the forum
Need your help
I'm from Saudi Arabia and here sometime people sell their car just because they couldn't get parts for the cars .
I have Chevy k30 1983
and problem is that when i use the 4WD Hi or Lo the 4WD seems to disengage and engage in less than a second and it every 10s or less if I'm climbing
I asked a mechanic and he told me what's wrong but I couldn't find the parts I was locking for and I couldn't search for it in the internet because I don't now the name of the parts in English .
so I need your help guys a link would be great

As I searched I think what I'm locking for is something like this ?

sorry for my English - -"

looks like you probably have an sm465 transmission and np205 transfer case hopefully someone else will chime in and verify. if it is a 205 its all gear driven. definitely sounds like some teeth on a gear have broke. sorry i cant help you any more than that. hopefully the little bit of info i gave you can help in some way. i wish i had worked on a few 205 t cases to have a better idea of what your problem is... im sure someone else here like i said earlier will be a lot more helpful than i am and can get you what you need.

A couple sites to look at. http://www.wideopen4x4.com/NP205RebuildGuide.html. To familiarize yourself with the np205. And this one for parts. http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog/transfer_case_replacements_and_parts/np205.html.
  Hope this helps alittle

You can find a master rebuild kit all day long on the internet, but that part will not be part of it.  You need someone who has taken one apart themselves to tell you what that is and where to find one.
Give it a little time, someone will chime in that has actually taken one apart.

That is the rare syncro 205 found on many 82-83 K-30s . you can identify it by the bulge over the bearing on the rear cover . Offroad design has the parts to eliminate the weaker syncro parts . You would probably need a front output shaft ,an idler shaft ,a shift fork and possibly some other parts . The syncro cases were made to allow the use of auto locking hubs .If you eliminate the sycro parts you will want switch to manual locking hubs if you still have the auto locking ones . Yes GM put auto locking hubs on K-30s

In the US that truck would be worth big $$$$$$.

Your truck does have the NP205. Normally very reliable.

Search the web. There are several rebuilders that will swap your old one for a rebuilt unit. The cost may be as much as what you bought your truck for.......

And don't worry about your English. Most English speaking people can't speak English either. Lol.

Does it have manual hubs ?
Or automatic hubs?

It could be the hubs not fully engaging
It's a lot easier to repair  and less expensive
So check that first
