K10 Suburban - What Differential Oil
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:13:18 PM »
O All-Knowing Oracles  ;)

Methinks it is time to change the oil in both diffs on my Burb (see sig).
What's the best weight/type oil to use and how much does each diff take?

thanx

i'd use standard gear oil, 80w or thereabouts.  Fill it up til it pours out the plug hole.

If you have a Limited Slip Diff, you need additive.....

I read somewhere that you can gain 1 mpg by running synthetic in the diff's, but I can't testify to those results. Plan on about 3 qts or so per diff to fill them.

I use royal purple full synthetic. Never had a problem out of it. Haven't really tested the MPG's since I started using it though. However, I never added any additive. And I'm sure my 87 has limited slip, as do most vehicles these days. Which additive should I use?
