Fuel Pump question
« on: September 30, 2014, 06:04:48 PM »
Short story, found a 400sbc, had it rebuilt, in process of putting everything back together.  Motor is going into a 1977 chevy K10, TH350/NP203.
I bought a 110gph Edelbrock fuel pump and it doesn't have a fuel return outlet on the pump, it only has the two openings for fuel from tank and then from pump to carb.
Do I need to return the pump and get one with a return line? Or can I just cap the return line and be ok?

Thanks!
Derik

A fuel return line benefits if you have problems with vapor lock (fuel boiling in the line or pump) - usually more common in hot climates.  You should be fine capping the return port at the tank and not running a fuel return.

That's a lot of fuel pump for 400 CID.

OK thanks!
I hope I didn't get it too big... motor has been rebuilt .30 over blueprint aluminum heads, performer rpm intake, holley 850 double pump, forged pistons, hydraulic lifters, new cam. I can curb it a little by adding a regulator if needed right?

Yes.....you should be able to look up the part number and it'll tell you if a regulator is recommended or required.

That motor sounds nice. You are going to like it real well.  ;D I hope you have the correct flexplate and balancer on it. What gear ratio do you have in the rear end? What camshaft did you go with?

Don5- My gear ratio is real messed up or I'm just not figuring it out right, but I've tapped my start line on wheel and axle and spun axle and watched the turns. and in two axle turns the wheel spun a little more than 1 full turn. So I have NO IDEA what's going on there/ and pretty sure if that's correct then I may not like them  :-\ :-\  The camshaft, I'm unsure what he used, I'm not a engine guy, so didn't want to even think about tackling the rebuild =)

Now that is nice!!! ;D ;D The nice thing about that engine is the fact that it will run better than it looks! ;D If anyone asks about the engine, just tell them it is a 350 with a cam.  Let them find out the hard way. ;D When I had mine, I always answered that question with a standard "It's a small block" response. Everyone assumed it was a 350 and I let them think that. ;D
