Is it possible that Hurst did make the shifters for GM, just without the Hurst stamping? Is it also possible that GM had a shortage and had to use some with Hurst stamped on them as it seems these posts are all about '73-'74 trucks?

I did an Ebay search on Hurst shifters and not only the handle but the 203 shift box looks like a Hurst design . I wonder if not GM maybe New Process had a collaboration with Hurst.

Doing a little bit of research on the subject has netted the following:

There were apparently two transfer case shifter designs for the NP 203; one was a Hurst unit that was riveted together and the other was the GM that was mostly bolted together.

The Hurst shifter handle (i.e., the chrome shift arm through the floor could be found on Hurst and GM units.

There is a way to twin-stick the GM NP203 Transfer case shifter using the parts from two shifters.

I'm afraid I don't see the advantage in twin sticking a 203. You've already got 2LO. What other combination can be gained from this?

BTW I'd love to see some more pics of the trucks in your avatar. Nice looking rigs.

I did the twin stick conversion on my 203 shifter . It was fairly easy and shifts much easier . Here's a link on how to do it

Thanks for the link, I might have to think about doing that to my 203.

Often, the NP203 transfer case shifter can be a "finicky piece of work."

By eliminating some of the junk in the shifter box (especially if its worn out, corroded or just plain muddy), you can have a shifter that gives you a positive engagement into whatever range or drive selection.
