what is the best to use ..... some type of sealant or double sided tape.
If I plan on getting my truck painted soon - would dbl sided tape be the thing to do ?
Any experiences with this?

Iv never done a emblem before because i had a 77 and the emblems where bolted on...altho i used 3M double sided tape on the cargo light because the screws where rusted out and the cab was junk(i have a new one now) and yeah anyway the 3m tape was stronge

thats what i was thinking , I just dont want to loose it down the road, because they are hard to find to replace.
thanks !!

Breaking mounting pegs off an emblem is pretty common and they are usually put back on with 3m automotive double sided tape or an equivalent. stick the tape across the entire back and then carefully use a razor blade to cut the tape to the exact shape of the emblem. It will never come off--that stuff is super strong.

hey - that idea about putting the tape on and then cutting the outline after the fact
is a great tip.....thanks.

No prob. I must have done a hundred emblems that way when I worked at my Dad's body shop as a teenager. It's actually pretty easy to make it look perfect with a good sharp razor blade.

The early ones with the bolted on emblems can be easily attached with barrel nuts if the studs are still intact. Do a search on here and you'll find a thread about it. Not sure when the switch was made but later 80's models were glued on from the factory.

The way I did mine on my 78 this time was to fill in the back of the emblems flush with epoxy so they are flat on the back and then use the best double sided tape I could find.
Don't fill in the emblem holes in the body, keep them for alignment purposes.
