I dont think so, I believe the metal underneath is setup differently. I would set it in, you may be able to get it with little modifications.

ok thanks my co worker had a 79 short bed and had some extra goodies and i was just trying to see what i could use

I am putting a 76 dash pad in a 84 cab I have "dry fitted" I just had to remove the front speakers and it goes in with little issue

yes it will fit.  Regardless of what any manufacturer thinks, the shell of the 73-87's ARE EXACTLY the same.
The dash will physically fit on there, but they are not the same from, so the fit at the bezel will be different.
