I removed the ugly/corroded/falling off body trim, and the paint/body underneath looks like it's salvagable, aside from some minor touch up...What would you guys suggest to clean off the old adheasive? Bear in mind the truck is dirty as heck in the pics, so it looks worse than it is...

I sanded mine off with 80 grit - but that was when I was preping the doors for paint.
I also used a large erasure rubber (if you know what I mean - like whats on the end of a pencil, but much LARGER) attached to a die grinder in my adult body shop class to remove the adhesive. I don't know where you can buy that though. Like I said I used 80 grit sand paper on a DA sander to remove mine.

i think i'd rather go with something chemical, to soften the glue, then remove it by hand. Rather than an abrasive, you know? I want to save the paint under it, b/c I think I can get away with what's there already, and I don't need a total repaint....

So that is adhesive and not rust? Hard to tell in the photo.
I've used wax/grease remover to get this stuff off, but it takes a good bit and a lot of clean rags. LOL the remover would eat my chem resistant gloves and dried my hands out so bad my knuckles cracked.
Good luck!

laquer thinner. Just make sure you do one area at a time and wash it off with soap and water as you go along. Don't leave it on the paint.

3M rubber wheel is real good for taking that old stuff off as well. Just be gentle or it will burn the paint.

All the local auto paint dealers around here have them, and a few of the parts stores. Picked mine up at the local PPG dealer.

napa has them i got mine thare 4 bout 12 bucks but iv seen them as high as 30 bucks in other stores

I wish I had heard about the 3M rubber wheel when I was doing mine. I used a heat gun and scraper, with a final clean using acetone.
Good Luck!

Either 3M Wax and Grease Remover and a Plastic Scrapper, or lacquer thinner like Vile suggested, and again I would suggest a Plastic Scrapper to help things along.....
3M's Pinstriping Removal Tool is meant for removing the Stripes, and a small amount of Adhesive "Gum" Residue, any more than that(What you have left to remove), and you will either eat through the wheels before you make too much of a dent in it, or you'll heat the paint causing other problems.....

i work in a body shop for a living and we use the 3m wheel on everything to remove stripes and adhesive from old moldings and it dosent burn through the wheel to much ya it makes a lil bit of a mess that you have to sweep up but youll be there all day useing wax and grese remover or thinner and a plastic scraper just DONT USE THE WHEEL or new paint fresh paint a few months old and newer cuz it will take the paint off put on your truck it will work just fine so if i was you id use the wheel not the chemicals 8)

I used it to remove the moulding residue from my 89 Camaro, my 01 Silverado and my wifes Ram. As long as you don't rush it, the wheel will do the trick.
