Title: square bore intake question
Post by: SFord on December 16, 2008, 08:47:45 pm
What is the effects of using a spread bore carb on a square bore intake, and vice verce, or does it even really matter?

In real world power, it won't be anything you will feel. Now if you had the engine on a dyno & tested it the different ways, there would likely be a difference of a few HP. The bigger secondaries funneling down to the smaller square hole & then trying to go around the corner to the rear cylinders wouldn't be as smooth as either of the "correct" parts without the adapter. Using the square carb on the spread bore intake would have less effect I would guess. So to answer your last part of the question, in a truck your driving around & not concerned with the last HP or Two... No it doesn't matter. Just be sure that your adapter & gaskets correctly seal to the intake. Lorne
