Title: 75 door problem
Post by: amanderson on December 17, 2008, 02:32:03 pm
Will any door fit on my 75 scottsdale? Everyone I talk to is telling me that only 73-76 will fit,but cant give me a reason why the others wont work. Any help would be greatly appreciated by this newbe to the site. I found two new doors that fit an 85 and can pick them up for 100.00,but dont really want to if they're not going to work. Thanks in advance.

They will work just the inside door panels must be from the 85
If you want to use the 75 door panels you will need to take the inside handles from the 75 and put them in the 85

It is A LOT more complicated than that.

You can't use 1976 down door panels on 77-up doors.  There are holes in the 77-up doors that the 76 down won't cover.  You also can't use the 76 down guts in 77-up doors as the stalk is too short for the door panel.

The 85 doors also do not have the lower front door skin lip folded over. Meaning that if you mounted them, when you closed the door the unfolded lip hits the lower part of the front fender.

So I would have to have different door panels and guts? And could I just bend the lip over before I start the body work and paint?

It is my lucky day! I scored big on this deal. I desided to go ahead and buy the doors,I cant turn down a good deal. The guy asked me if I'd be interested in afew more parts that he had around back in the shed. When we got to the shed,he dug out a hood,2 inner front fenders,1passengerside fender,2 complete bedsides, chrome front bumper, radiator support and rocker panels. All the parts are new aftermarket parts.I drove 300 miles and dont know this guy, so I only brought along 250.00 cash. So I was going to buy 1 bedsideand the doors for 250.00.After talking to the guy for over an hour in the freezing cold Missouri weather, the guy said something that shocked me! He said''son I like you and really would like to see these parts gone from my garage. How about you pull your truck around here and we'll load all these parts in it and Im still onlt gonna charge you the 250.00!!!!''  They're for an 80s truck and mine is a 75,but dang, I couldnt say no to that kind of deal!!!!

I wouldn't worry about the door lip.  I never had problems with them.  If you do, just bend them over.

IF you have a 75 truck door you CANNOT use ANYTHING from that door on anything from 77-up
