I was installing an AM/FM/CB/Cassette radio out of an 83 Eldorado in my '81 C-10 In doing this I got to spend plenty of on my head time looking under the dash. I found a module mounted under the dash that I am not sure about. It is a box mounted upright right above the accelerator pedal. It appears to go to the distributor harness, but some of the wires to the distributor have been cut and looped on the distributor side. Can anybody tell me what this module is and why the modification has been made to the wiring on it.
Thanks

the only thing i can think of is a tach

Probably the ESC controller which retatrds the ignition timing based on input from the knock sensor. Someone probably bypassed it.

Would it be worth re-enabling it and would it gain me any gas economy? The previous owner has rigged up everything else in this truck for no good reason. I have seen several other posts where people already have them disabled, but never explained why. The compression is down enough on my truck that I don't have to worry about spark knock with the corn gas around here.

I wouldn't bother. If you're going to upgrade the ignition system that's a good idea but the esc ignitions are junk.

I removed the ESC form my 81 K10 long ago.

If someone bypassed it the only think you will gain is aggrivation. Most all of them were bypassed. Even dealerships bypassed them.
