Title: Using white paint
Post by: dumbucket1 on December 24, 2008, 02:15:36 pm
I am considering a plain jain white paint job on my 84 gmc project. Is white a hard color to spray? Also is it one of them colors that the body has to be absolutely perfect or else all imperfections will show up?

I don't know yet if Im going to tackle the paint myself or take it to someone. Thanks

White sprays pretty much like any other color.  White is also the most forgiving as far as body work is concerned.  If you are not worried about the factory color might I suggest GM paint code 11 and don't put in the black when they blend it.  It will be the brightest white you will ever see.  I painted a Chevelle that color minus the black and in the sun it hurt your eyes.

The truck was originally a light blue color, not sure of the name of it. I am open to any shade of white really so thanks for the suggestion!

Any updates on this one?  I was thinking of getting my truck painted satin white with some kind of decal on the bedsides(where some say Z71).  I'm just not looking forward to sanding off this crappy black paint job.

here is a pic of my 84 step side. Looks really straight in the pics but has some minor dents and dings. White hides alot. I was going to paint it a different color but I think I`m going to keep it white but add a blue pearl to the clear when I get to the paint phase.

Bright Yellow hides the best. One its a light color, two its so bright you can't stare directly at it!! ::)
Its a plow / work truck so the small imperfections got painted right over! If it was black I wouldn't have to wave at my buddies on the road, it would do it for me! :D

add silver pearl to the clear looks alot better. With the blue pearl over white looks to much like a pastel color. I did my vette with the silver pearl looked good I have pics if you wanna see.. blue pearl looks sweet over black.

but what i find hard about paint white is not the painting part but the wet sanding and buffing part. What a pain

I`ll keep that in mind. I knew a guy who had a white chevelle with blue pearl years ago and I thought it looked good but I also like silver so maybe that would be a way to go with it.

Oh yeah, I`d like to see how it loks. Post some pics.
